Twisted Tales of Faerie: “Evil Laugh” by Seanan Mcguire

Filed under: Twisted Tales — Gwendolyn @ 04:21

Evil Laugh is AD PG, as long as you’re not afraid of dinosaurs (Rating System)

Download Evil Laugh by Seanan McGuire 3:34

All though not quite a fairy tale, space opera comes to much the same  thing. And this, is Seanan McGuire‘s homage to everyone’s favorite “Firefly” pilot Wash.

I hope you enjoy the song as much as I do, but be careful, the chorus has been known to stick around for days! This is from her album: Stars Fall Home. (If you were curious, yes, it was Ms. McGuire who most recently gave us permission to use her original music!)

Lyrics (in case you want to sing along 🙂

If you wanna be specific, it was Paleolithic
When we came upon this land --
It was fertile and fantastic, it was totally Jurassic,
It was here we'd make our stand!

And you said 'it's here we'll make our home,
It's verdant and so fine!
No need to wander or to roam,
This land is yours and mine!'
I guess you didn't see the signs...

My laugh is an evil laugh! Ha ha ha ha DIE.
It's been really swell, but now it's time to say goodbye.
My sudden inevitable betrayal was the only way
	We could end this tale...
My laugh is an evil laugh. Ha ha ha ha DIE.

I just can't ignore that I'm a Tyrannosaur-
-us, though it seems that you forgot.
It's my nurture, it's my nature, it's my nomenclature,
I'm the King and you are not!

And I said, 'We'll call this land your grave!
Why is this a surprise?
This is how a carnivore behaves.
I thought you'd realize.
It's time for you to recognize...

My laugh is an evil laugh! Ha ha ha ha DIE.
It's been really swell, but now it's time to say goodbye.
My sudden inevitable betrayal was the only way
	We could end this tale...
My laugh is an evil laugh. Ha ha ha ha DIE.

This land is really great, thanks a bunch.
It's time to celebrate, that's why I packed a lunch.
I'm pretty sure you knew that I wasn't an herbivore.
Bearing that firmly in mind, what'd you think you were needed for?
If you weren't for me to eat,
You wouldn't be made out of meat!
My laugh is an evil laugh. Ha ha MUNCH MUNCH DIE.

Please don't be offended by the way that it ended,
Though I don't care if you are.
I won't get any thinner -- you'll be staying for dinner.
Thanks for bringing me this far.

Because now this land is mine alone!
I rule all I survey!
That's nature, brutal to the bone;
It's always been the way.
There's just one more thing to say...

My laugh is an evil laugh! Ha ha ha ha DIE.
It's been really swell, but now it's time to say goodbye.
My sudden inevitable betrayal was the only way
	We could end this tale...
My laugh is an evil laugh. Ha ha ha ha,
Ha ha ha ha, ha ha ha ha DIE!

Fly like a Leaf on the Wind, my friends!

Siren Song
By Laura Frechette

Task Master: Bend your back and ROW!  Bend your backs and ROW!
Men: Our backs are burned. Our arms are sore.
Where is the wind on this cursed sea.
Task Master: Bend your backs and ROW!

Men: Days gone by on a glassy sea.
No wind or breeze nor birds that cry.
No clouds to guard us from the sun.
Task Master: Bend your backs and ROW!!

Men: A wind? A WIND! RAISE THE SAILS!
Task Master: Stow the oars and man the lines!
Men: A time for rest from the cruel sun.
To dream of a land called home.

Task Master: Man overboard, Man overboard!
Men: He was in a trance. A lady’s voice was on the wind he said.
And though he went to rescue her…

Task Master: …that’s how he met his end.

Siren: Come to me. Come to me.
                    Men of the sea…come..
My song shall lead you to me.
                    Sailors all…come.

                    Broken shall their hearts be,
                    The women of the shore.
For they stole my love from me.
                    This price settles the score.

The Pixy Play
By Laura Frechette

There is a wooded called filled with oak sycamore and pine.
The ferns and fallen leaves cover the ground as frost covers all in the area.

A small stream caresses the curves of the valley.
If followed, it joins the river and on the way down to the constant rush of water
the remnants of a flood remains.

An older pine is ravages.
The roots are pulled fromt the earth and the split trunk and branches
rest just behind its stump.

At first it seems like nothing more than an old fallen tree.
But as the sun sets whispers begin to rise from shadows.
The fireflies begin to collect and hover aroung the branches and alcoves
Created by the water’s wll to make nature into a theatre.

“Gather round ye pixy folk,” a little man’s voice calls.
“Ye beasts and feathered friends in the trees, come and join us for a time.
There’s a riddle to be solved and a story to unwind.”

So birds and chipmunks, squirrels and insets make their way to the open aired theatre.
Even the guardian pixies come forth into view and take rest as the moon begins to rise.
From behind the raised bark of the tree stump little lights begin to appear
And to applause or boos they play their parts and tell their night time tales.

But for us the light is dizzying,  and the night is our time for rest.
And before you know what has happened, you are drifting into a dream
With the sound of distant voices in your head.
When you awake the sun is ready to rise above the horizon.
You gather yourself and embrace the cold morning for your trek back to your man made world.
But as yoiur depart, just for an instantm you hear a little man say,
“We are here every night. Not to worry. You will get to see our play.”

Twilight Dances
By Laura Frechette

Sweet little melody on the air you sing
With a precious harmony, in my head you ring.
Come little melody, have you the time to play.
Dance with us harmony, in the rhythm sway.

Sweet little mortal child, listen to us sing
Follow us precious one into imagining
Come little mortal child and stay all night long
Dance dance innocent to our fairy song.

Dear harmony and melody, why do the fairies sing?
To please the earth,
To please ourselves,
To please the Goblin King
Oh fairy friends, let us away. I’m frightened by your tale.
You can not leave dear mortal child, try and you shall fail.

All hail to his viciousness, Hail the Goblin King
Melody, Harmony, what did you pixies bring?
A prize for you our honored lord, the child of which you spoke.
The one you would then make your own to join us fairy folk.

Oh Goblin King, please let me go. I have no wish to stay.
You would rather be yourself and grow your human way.
Why not stay within our land. I’ll grant you fairy flight
You’ll want for nothing and you can be free to do what you like.

And if I should refuse you King, what will become of me.
Then we shall curse those of your kin for your treachery.
And you shall watch to your dismay as they fall to our might.
So I ask you stay, be one of us and save them from this plight.

I will stay, my Goblin King. Until my death I swear.
I shall be your fairy child and follow you everywhere.
So shall it be child of man, let this be a lesson to all.
Follow not the fairy song lest you answer the Goblin’s call
